My name is Jake Martin and I’m a multidisciplinary product designer who’s passionate about crafting compelling experiences, coding side projects from scratch, and untangling disgustingly complex problems. Originally from Fort Collins, Colorado, I now live with my wife and our two cats in Charlottesville, Virginia.
While I'm not a full-fledged developer (yet), I know enough SwiftUI, HTML, and CSS to be dangerous — check out the app I'm building from scratch. Learning how to code has not only helped me internalize technical constraints across platforms, it's allowed me to speak the same language as my developers and work with them more effectively.
I strongly believe in the potential of combined brainpower and honest feedback. While I have shipped projects solo, I thrive when I'm working side-by-side with a team of other passionate designers and developers.
I've gotten plenty of practice working remotely and learned how to build relationships, collaborate, and do great work virtually, but I'm my best self when I get to see my team in person at least a couple times a week. I'm a sucker for team lunches and water cooler convos.
I tend to hyperfixate on something new every year or so. I completed three seasons of Drum Corps (catch me in the Auburn shirt at 7:05), discovered woodworking and built a marimba from scratch, got pretty good at ping pong and disc golf, and most recently, fell hard into D&D (ask me about my level 5 Rock Gnome Rogue with a penchant for unsolicited backflips).
